Overview
Parents know: Kids grow up fast. The care and attention they get early in life can make a big difference in their health later, especially if they have asthma or another physical or behavioral health challenge.
At our Heart of the City Health Center, we provide a full range of pediatric services to help you raise a healthy child. We proudly provide care for the whole child, including focusing on preventative care such as immunizations and well-visits to prevent issues down the road and discussions on keeping your child healthy and safe at every age and stage. Our team is highly experienced in helping families navigate some of the most common health challenges kids face, like allergies, obesity, and ADHD.
Services include:
- Well-child visits and physicals
- Vaccinations
- Lab work and diagnostic testing
- Treatment for minor illness and injuries
- Treatment for asthma, obesity, and other conditions
- Referrals for more serious illness, injuries, and additional care
- Lead screenings
- Nurses available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for questions or assistance
- Evening and weekend hours
- Same day/next day appointments
Caring for the whole child means looking after their behavioral health as well as their physical health. Many children today are under stress, which makes it hard to concentrate in school and affects relationships at home. Cherry Health’s professional therapists can help your child learn to cope with life’s challenges through one-on-one sessions in a familiar setting. A psychiatrist is also available for extra guidance when needed.
When babies and kids grow up with regular, nutritious meals, it benefits them for the rest of their lives. That’s why Cherry Health partners with the Kent County Health Department to offer the Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC). It’s a nutrition education and food program for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women and children up to age 5. We connect every participant with a registered dietitian who provides information and healthy foods to encourage good nutrition during pregnancy and the early years of childhood. Pregnant women who visit any Cherry Health location are offered WIC services, based on specific nutritional needs and income eligibility. For additional information, please call 616-776-2134.
Expecting a baby? Then you should know about Cherry Health’s Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP). MIHP is a team-based support and coaching program for pregnant women and new mothers. We can help you prepare for your baby’s birth, understand your pregnancy and your baby’s development, and find medical care and other resources for you and your new child. Sessions can take place in your home, our office, or another place that you choose.
- Your nurse will answer your questions and give you information about healthy pregnancy and infant development.
- Your social worker will help you adjust to your pregnancy and parenting, handle stress, and find the resources you need.
- Your dietitian will help you understand healthy eating for pregnancy and how to feed your baby.
- Community health workers can provide education, encouragement, and help connecting to resources in the community.
If you are pregnant or have a baby under a year old, and are Medicaid eligible, you can participate in the Maternal Infant Health Program as part of your insurance coverage. To learn more, please contact the MIHP Manager at mihp@cherryhealth.com. Supported by the Kent County Ready by Five Millage.
