Neighborhood Health Services

Neighborhood Health Services provided health care for low income people in Grand Rapids in the early 1970s.

1970

Montcalm County Health Promotion opens

Health Promotion services help children and families make healthy decisions through school and community collaborations.

1980

Community Treatment Center East & West open

CTC East and West provide a safe, structured, supervised environment, as well as employment counseling, job placement, and financial management assistance for citizens who are reentering the community following incarceration.

1981

Cherry Street Health Services is created

In an effort to strengthen Neighborhood Health Services, Cherry Street Health Services was created in 1988. It operated a single facility at 550 Cherry Street for several years, offering medical and dental services.

1988

Community Alternatives Program (CAP) opens

CAP assists residents with rebuilding their ties to the community and successful connection to community resources and support including family reintegration, health and human services, church and employment.

1989

Employee Assistance Center opens

Employee Assistance Center’s goal is to assist employees and their family members to lead fuller and more productive lives, allowing them to focus more fully on their job and life responsibilities.

 

1990

Sheldon House opens

Sheldon House is a psychosocial rehabilitation program open to patients of Cherry Health and patients of other mental health case management programs.

Leonard Street Counseling Center opens

Leonard Street Counseling Center strives to guide persons with mental health and substance use concerns to achieve recovery and reach their full potential.

Burton Health Center opens

Cherry Health opened its first school based health center, which is program coordinated by Cherry Health, Grand Rapids Public Schools and Spectrum Health in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

School Linked Health Services created

The traveling school health program provides comprehensive dental and vision examinations at over 70 schools.

Westside Health Center opens

Westside Health Center offers family medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, dental, counseling, Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP), & WIC services.

Grand Rapids Pediatrics and Salvation Army Booth Clinic open

Successive years brought the acquisition of Grand Rapids Pediatrics, one of Grand Rapids’ premier pediatric practices, and a collaborative health center with the Salvation Army.

Belknap Commons Health Center opens

Belknap Commons Health Center opened in a neighborhood, so community members could walk to it.

Ferguson Dental Center opens

Ferguson Dental Center provides general and restorative dental services, including exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, root canals, dentures, and more.

Creston High School Health Center opens

Creston High School Health Center provided quality medical, behavioral health, and dental services for students in a convenient setting.

2005

Ottawa Hills High School Health Center opens

Ottawa Hills High School Health Center provides quality health care, behavioral health care and dental services for students in a convenient setting.

2006

Montcalm Area Health Center opens

Montcalm Area Health Center  provides behavioral health, dental, medical, and vision services in Greenville, MI.

2007

Union High School Health Center opens

Union High School Health Center is a program coordinated by Cherry Health, GRPS and Spectrum Health in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

2008

Southside Health Center opens

Southside Health Center provides medication assisted treatment, which is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and psychosocial therapies, to provide a whole-patient approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.

2010

Merger of Three Organizations

With the merger of Cherry Street Health Services, Touchstone Innovare’, and Proaction Behavioral Health Alliance, Cherry Street Health Services absorbed behavioral health, mental health and correctional health services.

2011

Heart of the City Health Center opens

This location has administration, adult internal medicine, counseling, dental, Durham Clinic, Grand Rapids Lions Club Vision Clinic, health insurance enrollment, Maple Health Home, pediatrics, pharmacy, and research.

Wyoming Community Health Center opens

This location is your one stop shop for medical, dental, vision and counseling services in the City of Wyoming.

 

2012

Barry Community Health Center opens

This location provided medical and behavioral health services within the Barry-Eaton District Health Department.

2014

Cherry Health Foundation created

Cherry Health Foundation cultivates community awareness, trust and financial investment, and shares the Cherry Health story to inspire appreciation, engagement and support of its mission.

Cherry Street Health Services changes name

To reflect growth and becoming the largest federally-qualified health center in Michigan, Cherry Street Health Services changed its name to Cherry Health.

Barry Community Health Center – Dental opens

Barry Community Health Center – Dental in Hastings took care of your entire family’s dental needs.

Cedar Springs School Health Center opens

Any student ages 3-21 can be seen in the health center, regardless of whether or not they attend Cedar Springs Schools.

Eaton Community Health Center opens

Located in the Barry-Eaton District Health Department, this location offers medical and counseling services.

Innovation Central High School Health Center opens

Creston High School Health Center moved to Innovation Central High School Health Center serving all students ages 10 to 21. The teens and young adults do not have to attend Grand Rapids Public Schools.

2016

Muskegon Recovery Center opens

This location provides medication assisted treatment for substance use. 

2017

Barry Community Health Center moved & expanded

Barry Community Health Center moved and expanded to provide behavioral health, dental and medical services all under one roof.
