Grief After Losing a Pregnancy or Baby

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Here are some tips and resources to use to help cope with your loss.

What is grief?

Grief is the feelings you experience after the loss of a loved one or someone close to you.

How do I deal with grief from the loss of my pregnancy/baby?

  • Talk about your loss. Social workers, counselors, spiritual leaders, and healthcare providers are all great sources to turn to when you are grieving.
  • Become active, create a healthy lifestyle. Getting out of the house, exercising, and creating healthy eating habits will help you feel better.
  • Stay away from alcohol and caffeine. Staying away from alcohol and caffeine will help regulate a sleep pattern and help your body relax during a stressful time. Try water and juice instead.
  • Let yourself grieve. Your feelings are valid and normal. Allowing yourself to feel and express them will help the grieving process move on.
