October 12, 2017 (The Hastings Banner) – Access to primary medical care will soon be expanded in Barry County, with the nearing completion of the new Cherry Health center. Plans for a ribbon cutting and open house are expected to be in early November. The new facility is in the lower level of the Ace Hardware Store at 200 S. Boltwood Street.
“Since I’ve been coming to Hastings, I’ve fallen in love with the community. There is so much here to enjoy and appreciate,” said director of development Anna Clifford. “But the need for help with health care isn’t seen in communities. It isn’t evident for people who don’t need the help. Once our new health center is open, this need will be quickly demonstrated.”
Anticipating a rise in patient numbers, a new health care provider will join the staff in late November or early December, she said.
The extensive project began three years ago with a plan and the determination of then-director of development Sharon Barton. Barton led the fundraising effort for building a new center, and of the $1.3 million needed to complete the project, just $295,000 in matching funds needs to be raised.
