Event donates children’s books to kids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WOTV) – The West Michigan community stepped out to join the Social Charity Club of Grand Rapids and raise funds for Cherry Health’s Reach Out and Read program.

Reach Out and Read programs support early childhood literacy and school readiness by providing books to children ages 0-5 at their well child check-ups. Pediatric waiting rooms at Heart of the City Health Center Pediatrics and Westside Health Center Pediatrics offer literacy enriching areas with children’s books. Each child gets to take the book home and continue learning.

The Social Charity Club of Grand Rapids held their monthly fundraising event at Rockwell/Republic in downtown Grand Rapids on Thursday, March 12. Attendees paid $10 for a complimentary drink ticket and appetizer. In return, all of the proceeds benefit the reading program at Cherry Health. For each $10 donated, four children’s books will be given to local kids.
